Christmas 2007
9th year

Back Home Store

Join us this year for our Ninth Year. Jeff has been busy putting on Benefits, and knocking on doors. People have responded so well that each year the drive has grown to the point that in 2006 it took 2 loads (Thank You Conway/CCX) to gather all that was donated off to Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota home of the Sincangu Lakota.

Here is what a little town by the name of Mt. Pulaski, IL. is doing

ITEMS TO BEGIN JOURNEY TO ROSEBUD, SD On December 7th, items donated by our members here at St.John's will begin their journey to the Lakota Sioux Reservation at Rosebud, SD. Our items will be taken, via pickup truck, to one of our members, Karen Herndon, in West Milton, OH. A close friend of hers, Jeff Madewell, has made it his mission to help these native Americans with every day necessities and a few special things, such as extra food, clothing, and toys for their children Members of St. John's have willingly filled boxes of specific items to help in this endeavor. We are sending baby/body lotion, baby wipes, artificial sweetener, shaving items, oral hygiene supplies, baby supplies, antibacterial dish washing liquid, and wrapped bar soap. Included also in this truck load, heading east to go west, are several boxes of heavy winter clothing/coats, blankets, baby quilts, socks, and assorted underwear. All the items we send are greatly needed and appreciated. Jeff will be riding out with the semi truck to deliver these gifts, arriving before Christmas. Many thanks to all.

Drive will commence Saturday December the 8th 2007 Donations need to be in W. Milton before December 8th for the 2007 Rosebud Christmas Clothing/Toy Drive. You can send items to the address below, including Canned Food and monetary donations. On Monetary donations, please state if you have a preference on how it's used. (Toys, Clothing, Food, Propane for Elders heating, anyway it's needed, you get the idea)

Here's what Jeff Madewell wrote about the 2007 Drive.

2007 Rosebud Christmas Drive

The generosity poured in from near and far, making the 2007 drive a heartwarming success, with donated and purchased items filling a 52' semi trailer to full capacity. Jet Express, Dayton Freight, Pilot, and several other companies donated the truck, trailer, and enough fuel for the trip out and back.

A driver from Dayton Freight used his vacation time and volunteered to drive the 2,300 mile round trip. Paragon Molding in West Milton once again donated their facility for sorting, packing, and loading of the donated items. Several of their clients, along with other businesses and individuals, generously gave monetary donations.

These funds, along with money raised at a benefit concert performed by Higgins-Madewell and Love Junkie at the Creekside Tavern, were used to purchase toys, food, personal hygiene items, and warm clothing. A trailer full of donations was driven to West Milton from Mt. Pulaski IL, where the items had been collected throughout the year by a local church and members of it's surrounding communities.

These are just a few examples of a long list of those that were determined to make the 2007 drive a memorable one. Thanks to all of the businesses and individuals that, once again, gave so freely of themselves. This was our 9th year, and because of you, the most successful to date. Your continued support and selfless desire to make families on Rosebud have a brighter Christmas is appreciated more than words can say.

God Bless You All.

Jeff Madewell has created a website for the Rosebud Reservation Clothing, Toy and Food Drive that is currently under construction www.christmasforrosebud.com but is a great place for more information about what this man, his family and community have proven works when one is driven to help others selflessly with the only reward being the smiles on the faces of those needing help.

Please note that ALL Donations , Monetary and otherwise are used 100% for this. No 1 person gains any money or goods for their Volunteer Work. Here is the finest example of helping with No regard of any personal gain.

Surely there are others out there wanting to help those within our country that need genuine help. Is this something you, your community, Church, Business or other group can do? Helping others just for the sake of helping? This is the True Meaning of the Lakota term Okisiapo (helping each other)
